Because of the need to work hard and to work more, millions of people have resorted to the convenience of the internet to look for romance. Online dating has provided the initial meet-up and even the platform for the nurturing stage of many relationships. So for lovers who have been dating online and have practically no time yet for the actual meet- up and real date, it is very important to keep the romantic ambiance and build up on the relationship with things that they’d say to each other during an online chat.
Back in 1968, when the internet was not known to many throughout the world yet and online dating was never heard of, Bee Gees released their song Words. Never must it have been thought that the lyrics “It’s only words, and words are all of I have, to take your heart away” would be very much applicable to the current situation of online lovers. Although the saying goes by that action speaks louder than words, saying these words will show acts of care, appreciation and love.
These “magic words” are nothing new but are sometimes overlooked and taken for granted so it would be good to be reminded of them once in a while.
How are you? – This may seem a casual greeting but it shows a person’s concern on what’s going on to the other person’s life. Sometimes, the world may evolve too much on one’s problem, stress and tiredness that these few words of tender loving care may be skipped. By asking this question in the initial part of the chat, one can gauge the mood of their chat-mate and determine how to go about the conversation.
Words of Admiration – Beautiful, handsome, gorgeous, smart, thoughtful and sweet or similar adjectives- everyone must have an admirable characteristic and though it may never be said, everyone would want to be appreciated. Expressing the liking for something is not just for Facebook pages. It’s also heart-warming for the person being liked and fills in the human need for esteem.
Words of Gratitude –Since people are usually busy and coming online for a video chat or a simple exchange of updates on each other’s lives requires some sacrifice of time and energy, a simple “thank you” for the effort that the other person is making is also an act of appreciation. Kids are taught this simple act but as they grow into adults, it may be taken for granted so it’s good to get use to saying it and making it part of one’s nature.
I love you – Many would want to hear this but people would rather not hear it than hear it being said carelessly. It’s an overused line and can often be misleading. Unless individuals are really into a serious relationship, using these words should be avoided. However, when these words are used with all honesty, it becomes a powerful tool of affirmation for the affection.
These “magic words” of course are applicable to all relationships but online relationships are more dependent on it because of the lack of physical interaction. The good thing though is that internet technology allows video chatting which can help a little bit more in that people can actually say these words directly to their chat-mate and they can hear it directly from them too. If for a healthy life one shouldn’t go by a day without eating an apple, then for a healthy online relationship, a conversation should also not go by without these “magic words”.
